As social media networking apps become increasingly popular, more and more women are coming out with horror stories, and experts say some users' behaviour has become a real problem.

, Ms Owen said she aims to add to the conversation.

Under LinkedIn's Professional Community Policies, users are instructed to "be professional" and "do not engage in unwanted advances". This includes her most recent incident where they said "it did not violate our Professional Community Policies". According to a survey of around 1,000 Malaysian women last year, 56 per cent of women have experienced at least one form of gender discrimination in the workplace.

She has recently received "unwanted messages" that felt "unprofessional" and decided to speak up about it.

Maybe I'm blaming the victim but a couple of pointers for Layla: Only connect with people you know and who know you; Don't think that anyone ' ... who knows someone in the industry who could help me out to get me into something'- it doesn't work that way, not in 🇦🇺 .

It's very unfortunate that so many people are made to feel uncomfortable. Some clearly struggle with empathy and understanding others' point of view and feelings. It should be noted though, that asking someone out or complimenting someone's eyes is not sexual harassment.

men 🤮

Ugh muppets! Keep ya dicks in your pants boys and be bloody professional!

The men here ommenting just don’t get it. LinkedIn is a professional site not a dating app. Women get this day in, day out, it gets wearing and many have had enough. This isn’t a one off, it happens over and over. Ask your female relatives/friends about their experience

I am not sure some women need to be approached anymore, best to leave them alone.

Swim star goes dark after ‘perverts’ bombshellAussie swim star Maddie Groves has announced she is giving up her social media accounts just hours after her bombshell withdrawal from the Australian Olympic swimming trials. I support her decision. Social media can be a sewer at times. The comments presented would lead any one to despair. Not sure who you are but you must show some evidence otherwise how can one defend one's self not fair. never heard of her is she Julia Gillards lover? it's easy to throw out these words as an excuse for your own failures but where is your evidence?
