Almost half of the readers surveyed declared a hung parliament could deliver positive results as Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Labor leader Anthony Albanese fail to win a decisive verdict.

have failed to deliver a decisive verdict in favour of either Prime Minister Scott Morrison or Labor leader Anthony Albanese, while almost half favour the idea of a hung parliament., which opened last Wednesday, said they believed a hung parliament could deliver a positive result while 44 per cent said it could not, amid warnings from both major parties a hung parliament would result in chaos and uncertainty.

About 40 per cent of respondents said they had a pay rise over the past 12 months but few enjoyed a real wage increase, with 15 per cent of pay rises below the rate of inflation, 12 per cent at the rate of inflation and 12 per cent above inflation. About a third said they had no pay rise.Readers also favoured Mr Albanese as the winner of the leaders’ debates, with 34 per cent nominating the Labor leader across the three debates, compared with 20 per cent for Mr Morrison.

“We will be in uncharted waters with a hung parliament but nothing could be worse than what we have now,” said one reader.“We can see a clear agenda especially on climate from the independents and not from the Coalition or Labor. Seeing the independents with a balance of power would be a good thing for both parties,” said another.

Several readers pointed to a hung parliament as a positive development that would help shake up the Liberal Party.“A hung parliament will, hopefully, be a stepping stone to a Liberal Party of smaller government, budget restraint, ethical leadership and secular values,” one said.

Hung parliament is the worst case scenario. It doesn't go anywhere but kicking the ball back and forth. As a country, we're just being hung up for 3 years not moving forward.

That’s not the answer Peter Costello was after.

The AFR has morphed into Liberal Party propaganda. So apparently it’s not working anymore.
