A long-awaited review into Infrastructure Australia will be released by the end of the year, according to Infrastructure Minister Catherine King, who said her role was to bring “coherence” to a national $123 billion infrastructure pipeline.projects could overheat the already over-stretched construction market, and that rising labour and material costs was a risk to projects across the country.

At a time when the Albanese government has shown a willingness to scrap big ticket projects put forward by the former government, she reiterated a commitment to high-profile projects including the Inland Rail project. When asked about caps for the cost of the project, she said the government would wait for the return of a report under way by company executive Kerry Schott before deciding on potential cost constraints. When asked about the Victorian government’s Suburban Rail Loop which has a 30-year development timeline, King said the government remained committed to the project and denied her support had anything to do with the upcoming state election on Saturday.

He described the sector as “very much in a time of flux” and said difficult market conditions would prompt service providers to collaborate and consider alternative models of investment and service delivery.
