AFL clubs, players and Liberal MP call for gambling crackdown ahead of grand final

Collingwood players Brodie Grundy and Darcy Moore have voiced some of their concerns about the level of advertisingThe federal government has banned advertising during live matches and a five-minute window before the game, but industry figures say companies have just loaded advertising into pre-game coverage.

"I think we should be looking at a phased-in restriction on gambling companies from advertising in the first instance during sports. Sally Gainsbury says there has been an increase in young men seeking help for sports wagering problems. Collingwood FC players Brodie Grundy and Darcy Moore have this week criticised the extent of gambling advertisements, saying young AFL fans are struggling to separate the sport from the industry.

Communications Minister Paul Fletcher said the current arrangement was "very strict" and that the Australian Communications and Media Authority was continually monitoring its effectiveness.In a video released by Collingwood this week, Grundy and Moore criticised the extent to which gambling has become entrenched in the sport.

Ban the advertising of betting and odds. Tobacco and alcohol bans did not put sports teams under.

Now their concerned? 2 days before the last game of the season? Will they continue to care enough before the next season? Cigarettes and alcohol are prohibited gambling should be too.

That's so sweet however how will commercial television survive without all the television advertising for gambling? It's a constant for them all day, even during a pandemic and while kids are at home. My 11yr old nephew wanted to know how to get ladbrokes!!!
