An Adelaide set designer, known for her breathtaking stage creations, is making a huge impact worldwide in the unlikely world of miniatures — even having a piece commissioned by Game of Thrones author George R R Martin.

As a fresh-faced 18 year old, Ms Lamb started out as an assistant stage manager and it was not until her thirties that she finally broke through into set design.

She has regularly been in work across Australia ever since — working for the likes of Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir St Theatre and Brisbane's Griffin Theatre Company.Victoria Miniatures produces high quality, collectible miniatures for hobbyists, collectors and gamers and is one of the leading operators in the field internationally."The miniatures I always expected that to be a hobby, but it just grew and grew and grew until it became very much my primary thing," she said.

The company's products sell from as little as $4 up to $75, and are made from hand cast resin instead of plastic and are generally unpainted and unassembled.Fifty per cent of her market is in America, with other markets including Europe, Asia and Australasia. "I think it's the whole return to what you call the 'nerd culture' or the 'geek culture'," Ms Lamb said.

"People really ... want to play board games, they want to paint miniatures, they want to do role playing, they want to go to conventions. Her business now employs two other workers at its Warradale address and is struggling to keep up with demand.
