The South Australian State Emergency Service has responded to more than 220 calls for help as wild weather brought down trees and damaged homes leaving over 30,000 without power.

The State Emergency Service said on Monday that it had responded to over 220 calls for help, with more than 160 ongoing, as winds bought down trees and damaged properties.

He emphasised the risk of injury from downed lines was high advising he had received reports that"about 40" wires were down. Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Hannah Marsh said gusts of up to 85km/h were recorded at Sellicks Beach, with winds generally about 61km/h.
