Acting Prime Minister Michael McCormack has labelled Adam Bandt a “traitor to Australia”, declaring “hell will freeze over” before the Coalition government listens to the Greens over its climate policy. The Greens leader accused the federal government’s failure to commit to net zero emissions a “death sentence” to Australians, saying the government was “ripping apart our country’s social fabric”.
In reply, Mr McCormack criticised Mr Bandt for urging foreign nations not to trade with Australia, labelling the Member for Melbourne’s actions “treasonous” and a “disgrace”. “You talk of global warming; hell will freeze over before I start listening to the Greens,” he said. “The Member for Melbourne should begin to talk things up in Australia, not run us down. “He should not write to ambassadors to Australia and urge them to tell their countries not to trade with Australia.
