Geoffrey Maurer was giving evidence at the trial of Vinzent Tarantino, who has pleaded not guilty to murdering Quanne Diec, who vanished in 1998 on her way to school.

A man has told a jury he was flabbergasted when an associate confessed to having killed "a little Asian girl" who "wouldn't shut up" after he abducted her to extort money.Vinzent Tarantino is led from court last Monday.He was giving evidence at the trial of Vinzent Tarantino, 52, who has pleaded not guilty to murdering Quanne Diec, 12.

Quanne, whose body has never been found, vanished on July 27, 1998, after leaving her Granville home to walk to the train station on her way to school.Mr Maurer said Mr Tarantino had rung him, wanting to meet, so he drove to him, and they had a conversation in his car.Mr Tarantino then told him he had abducted "a little Asian girl", he said."He told me he got the wrong girl.""He said that he killed her, she wouldn't shut up and he didn't mean to.

The witness said he was pretty sure Mr Tarantino told him he buried her in a national park about 1½ hours' south.
