The company grows hay and other crops on its vast landholdings in the Pilbara iron ore district and is studying the potential for carinata, pongamia and camelina to be grown locally as biofuel feedstocks. The proponent-led system allows any individual, group or organisation to suggest a method of carbon abatement or emissions avoidance. An independent committee led by Professor Karen Hussey will assess each proposal and advise the government.

The proponent-led system was designed to encourage innovation and growth in the ACCU scheme by allowing those at the cutting edge of research and development to offer advice on its structure.
