ABC refuses to hold staff accountable for bias tweet

Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton says ABC Managing Director David Anderson “insults our intelligence” by claiming Patricia Karvelas’s tweet with Labor MP Linda Burney wasn’t a breach of the personal use of the ABC social media policy.

Ms Karvelas tweeted on May 21 – the night before the federal election – a selfie between herself and Labor MP Linda Burney, who is now the Minister for Indigenous Australians. That tweet was accompanied by the text: “This woman is a legend and looks like she will be the next Indigenous affairs minister #Ulura Statement”.

“Wow, that’s quite the endorsement – but how does that sit with the requirement that ABC journalists – yes, the ones your taxes pay for – be impartial?” Mr Houghton said.“Incredibly, he claimed there was nothing to see here.

Houghton seems to have forgotten Sky’s last 12 months which consisted of a failed campaign against Labor in the lead up to the federal election followed by a failed campaign against Labor in the lead up to the Victorian election. But he’s a bit worried about bias…
