The review will examine how well the ABC manages external complaints and feedback about compliance with its own editorial standards, while considering factors such as training, remedies and actions taken.

The ABC board has commissioned an independent review of the national public broadcaster's editorial self-regulatory system and complaints handling.Former Commonwealth ombudsman John McMillan and ex-SBS and Ten executive Jim Carroll will head the review

It will also consider training, remedies and actions taken, resourcing and the handling of other audience responses that may have a bearing on the standards. ABC chair Ita Buttrose said the upcoming review was a timely initiative to ensure the ABC's complaints handling procedures met audience expectations.

My complaints re ethnicist jokes resulted in no change so I stopped listening to the radio station. Re racism, they missed the point entirely. On sexism - other stuff they've been good.

How Independent from the Federal Government?

More male presenters, gender equality

About time.

Excellent. ABC leading the media landscape again.

Good as they need to do something about their racist behavior.

Lolz at 'independent'. fakenews

End the ABC, it's long since been dead inside.

I am still waiting on a response to a complaint I put in a while ago about ABC's You Can't Ask That Lesbian edition that featured a male person talking about his penis ffs. Homophobic much?

Everytime i turn on ABC within 2 minutes they start talking about aboriginals... Not Assange, not Palistine, not climate change, not Yemen, not Syria, not corruption. Just Aboriginals.

HOW independent? Toothless tiger or something that has integrity?

Another “sweep it under the carpet” review, which will predictably find the ABC’s processes are best practice. Same processes that will not find any bias in any of Laura Tingle’s reports.

Another announcement, Morrison style to fend off complaints of truly rotten reporting by an increasingly angry public. This will go nowhere, it’s just a ploy to shut us up.

The ongoing decimation of the ABC is an inside job. ABC

About Time!! So obvious!

Give Ita rhe arse too

Good. Complaints seem to be ignored. Have them use Twitter as well for a bit of real world insight.

Federal ICAC too?

all complaints about how they are becoming more and more of a mouthpiece of the Liberal Party will be forwarded directly to the IPA.
