A scrapbook of stories brings back a flood of memories for an entertainment and feature writer, from the strange celebrity encounters to the everyday champs, writes Kate Halfpenny. | OPINION

When I got a newspaper cadetship in 1985, my mum scrapbooked all my clippings. She handed them over a couple of years ago and I forgot about them until the boredom of this week.

Somehow that spun into a career in entertainment and feature writing. Any star who came to town, I was there. Donny Osmond opened his suitcase to show me his vitamin collection. At the PR lunch to celebrate theGuy Pearce raced to the milk bar when, eight-months pregnant, I fancied shortbread. I danced with Naomi Campbell, mistook Kim Kardashian’s assistant for Kim, talked kombis with Chris Hemsworth. Tommy Hilfiger asked what brand my jeans were.

Sara Chivers, whose letter written to her sons while dying of the brain cancer that would also claim the life of her toddler son Alfie made global headlines. A 93-year-old magician. The mayor bursting with pride at his first-placed Tidy Town. The couple on an indefinite road trip on a tandem bike with their baby. The dad who turned his daughter’s car crash death into an education campaign. These people I remember, because they’re the ones that count. Their stories were real.

Kim is a playwright, award-winning public speaker, martial arts expert, radio host, facilitator and trainer. After building a classroom, she home-schooled her kids for 10 years because it was “easier” than a four-hour school run.For over two years, she slept in a tent in the backyard because the family rental didn’t have enough bedrooms She never talks or seems to think about the ‘juggle’ which bedevils other working mums and has become a publishing industry favourite.

Plenty of build-up in Kate Beckinsale’s new movie, but no pay-offIn Jolt, Kate Beckinsale’s character has violent impulses restrained by electrical shocks. It’s a zany concept that should have been played more deadpan. |REVIEW of Jolt ★★½ I remember watching a film late one night years ago about a psychopath being cured of evil intent by electrodes implanted in his brain that stimulated pain receptors if he thought about hurting people. Yeah, but the pain turned into pleasure and it didn't end well. Or it did. 欢迎您加入GETTR,这里有您需要的真相,有您需要的言论自由!
