The federal government, Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp and Victorian business groups have hit out at another pause on easing COVID-19 restrictions, with some left feeling like it's Groundhog Day.while awaiting the results for over 1,000 tests linked to the growing northern suburbs outbreak.
In a joint statement, Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg and federal Health Minister Greg Hunt said Sunday's announcement would mean many Victorian businesses would not"make it". Former Victorian health minister Jenny Mikakos has also accused Mr Andrews of"paralysis in decision-making" for postponing his announcement.
All Melburnians have done an amazing job to stop the spread of the virus and our rolling 14-day average is below 5.While applauding minor rule changes for regional areas from 11.59pm on Tuesday, Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry chief executive Paul Guerra said the extended wait was a"shattering blow to businesses".
That point was echoed by the Chapel Street Precinct which argued Melbourne should be ready to proceed if the state's contact tracing system did its job properly.
