'A long time coming': Ancient Aboriginal rock art returns home

A large petroglyph was cut away in 1962 and taken to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.abc.net.au/news/aboriginal-rock-art-petroglyphs-return-home-from-museums/101685472Two ancient pieces of Aboriginal rock art are making their way back to Tasmania's north-west after a long campaign to have them returned to the rugged coastline from where they were stolen in the 1960s.

Rebecca Digney says hundreds of people around the state have been consulted about the petroglyphs' return. "It's all happening and there's a real buzz in the air because everyone's just so excited — this is reconciliation in action." "For probably 20, 30 years I can remember people talking about this, so to see it happen now is a wonderful thing," he said.

Aboriginal Land Council chairman Michael Mansell told the Launceston crowd the artworks were like puzzle pieces; They don't make sense on their own but when put back in place, they tell a story.

True story … The white man annihilated every Aboriginal on the isle of Tasmania.

Saying this 14,000 year old rock art was ‘stolen’ is inaccurate, inflammatory & is inappropriate reporting by this ABC employee. ItaButtrose

There is a lot of nonsense in this puff piece to take in.

im sure that this expensive exercise will change a lot
