'A large percentage of the Queensland has not had a say': Brisbane mayor calls for daylight saving trial

Queensland is the only eastern state that does not participate in daylight saving.abc.net.au/news/qld-daylight-saving-trial-adrian-schrinner-/101494710Brisbane's mayor is urging the state government to give daylight saving another go, more than 30 years after it was last trialled.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner today said Queensland residents should have another opportunity to make up their minds, calling on the state government to trial the scheme once again.Lord Mayor of Brisbane Adrian Schrinner has long supported daylight saving in Queensland. "Thirty years ago [was] the last time that Queensland has had the opportunity to experience daylight saving," Mr Schrinner said.

"It's just about having people out and about enjoying the city, the state, the economy, spending money in local businesses — there is a massive injection that can occur," he said.Mr Schrinner said one study estimates Queensland misses out on up to $4 billion without daylight saving. "Queensland is a big state and once you get past the Tropic of Capricorn it's a little different for us here in the north. In summertime, we have sunsets that occur 50 minutes after they occur in Brisbane."

Daylight savings is for yuppies and white collar workers. When you work in the sun from the crack of dawn you by the afternoon you just can't wait for it to go down. Get up an hour earlier if you want more time in the sun.

Daylight Saving is a pain in the arse. I don't care whether it's Daylight Time or whatever the fuck the other one is called, just choose one and leave it alone !

We don't need it !!!!

I hate daylight savings, it's way too long and bloody inconvenient. I live in nsw and because of this bloody thing there is now 3 hrs difference with WA. I would like to see a vote here to vote this sham of an idea cancelled

No way we don’t need daylight savings.

How many times do they need to hear NO ?

Live on GC. Like that Qld doesn't have DLS...the 2 time zones near the border spreads the traffic out. We know how to accommodate our NSW workforce, most workplaces offer them to work on their time. Qld typically early rises, no need for DLS

Here comes the Cows 🐄 and curtains argument again 😎

Some better ideas than reintroducing daylight saving in Queensland: * Northern NSW joins Qld time. * Northern NSW joins Qld. * Daylight saving in winter - we need extra daylight in winter, not summer. * Do nothing - avoid body clock adjustment.

Over 99% of QLDrs haven’t been asked about the ability of people 2 SELF ID as the opposite SEX either! In other words ANY MAN can self identify as a WOMAN & change his name & SEX on his birth certificate! Outrageous!! But ABC doesn’t report this because AWEI points right!

Please, please, please can Queensland get daylight savings. So we can enjoy the extra hour of sunlight at the end of the day, not have sunrise before 5am and not have so many time zones in Australia - just to name a few.

So, I can sleep an extra hour?

They should phase it in over several weeks

No-one in Queensland under the age of 60 has had the opportunity to vote on it. But if put to a popular vote it would be voted in. The world of 40 years ago has gone. Except in the Smart State.

QLD’ers overall are healthier & happier It’s nice to go to bed early and get up at the crack of Dawn Vic & Nsw people moving to QLD in droves because they like the lifestyle I’ve lived in nsw for 30yrs and I dread daylight saving every year Screws with the body clock

Yes, let’s have a trial.

Medically I could treat 3 extra patients a day during daylight savings. But without it the cut off is 4pm. Queensland patients miss out. Purely because we are an hour behind the rest of the east coast. But the average Joe does not think of this.

Lol. Right on cue, the clock disturbers are agitating again. Do not want.

Why do people have such a problem with attempting to problem-solve (i.e. testing)? Yeah stick with your 'Queenslander' values and go in circles...

Well it’s about time

It'll fade your curtains - just saying 🤣😂🤣😂

We had our say and we said...

How is each generation voting on an issue that doesn't geographically suit our state going to matter? SEQ vs FNQ vs outback? Yeah, nah.

As a Western Australian can I please advise the Queensland government to not even entertain this BS... again

That’s a big no from me

If we do, can we limit it across the country to just Summer. It's gotten ridiculous.

Another bright Liberal idea to save .5 cents

The closer you are to the equator, the less dusk there is. Lived in Darwin for a few years, the sun went down and it was dark almost straight away. And daylight saving means it’s hotter when you go to bed.

The Gold coast is the only place that wants it, so give it to them.

Nope. The sunrise and sunset times barely change in the tropics. Brisbane is not the whole of Queensland. Might be time for North Queensland to be become a seperate state.

No!

ah, the invisible apostrophe strikes again... 'the Queen'sland'

“Of the Queensland”? Twice? Who is editting and not checking syntax?

I would love to have daylight saving in Qld

Queensland still on 1920 time! So what's the problem!!?!

Many people in Qld get up early in the cooler morning and do things before going to work. This is why the last referendum failed. I love an early morning swim in the sea while you are still in bed in Sydney

Here in Melbourne it's back to waking up in the dark, then at it's height it will be around 9pm when it finally gets dark, kids are hard to get to bed & it's too darn hot to enjoy. For the final month we're back to getting up in the dark. Thanks I can do without it.

Bit old fashioned dst. Everyone is wfh anyway

Let's have a referendum on splitting the state in two

Queensland should be nice when it's finished...

A large percentage of Qld hasn't had their voices heard so instead of asking them or having a referendum let's do it anyway? Sounds legit.

ds4seq Yes please

It’s a marketing ploy to get an extra hours labor off the backs workers! QLD ain’t sheep like other states! WeDifferent

Sunrise/sunset times, SEQ without DST. Personally, I'd vote to move these times up an hour. Lot of people wouldn't. Anyhoo.

Why not get rid of it Australia wide? Why do we need it or even want it?

Just bloody bring it in for all of Queensland, stop listening to the whousers🥴🥴🥴

Yeah, no one asked me.

Dont do it...

I live in a state with daylight savings, but it's such a pain in the ass, and it's known to cause a ton of negative aspects, particularly around the periods where it goes back and forwards (missed appointments, more stress related health issues like heart attacks, etc.). 👎👎

It basically only benefits those longitudes furthest from the equator

In WA we had various people push it for years despite an earlier trial that failed. So we had to run with again for 3 summers ☀️ before we voted it down anyway! Just because these others states have it, doesn't make it right for us.

A large percentage of the Queensland... what?

But what about the curtains fading and when are we supposed to milk the cows ABC?😳

Pressure from newcomer southerners? Is change necessarily progress?

No thanks. I originally came from a southern state. Will be voting against any changes.

As a Melbournian (who has DST) originally from Perth (who don't) I'd have to wonder why you would want it!?
