A marathon, not a sprint: The frugal Aussies shunning the country's cycle of debt

Frugal Australians are shunning the country’s cycle of debt to stay focused on their financial goals.

Either way, the relatively small but determined group of savers are living proof that resisting the urge to buy those designer shoes and instead leave that money in the bank can add up over time. "We use a soda stream instead of buying bottles of mineral water and have a simple coffee machine at work and home, saving us $10 a day on coffee, or $10,000 a year,” he adds.Setting up a savings rhythm is key.

That's great, 100k a year -choice. I really hope I'll be dead by 75 my parents didn't reach their 70s fingers crossed 🤞

My 22yo lives and saves-had a part time job for 4 years this year full time. She enjoys life to the full and is a prudent saver=does both.

How patronising to say it's a small group saving and everyone else is splashing cash. If you're young unless you have a well paying job you're doing neither 'the relatively small but determined group of savers are living proof that resisting the urge to buy those designer shoes'

I recommend having solar as you save on electricity bills.

or u can make more money and still live like a normal human.

You didn't mention that these people also bottle their farts for cooking. What a horrible economy if others choose to follow! Every cafe would sell toast with a sprinkle of egg shavings and cups of marcona coffee. Everybody can save their plastic money to feel secure in death

Won't someone think of the bankers and multinationals ?

Yeah, deprive yourself your whole life for that nice little, er..big...nest egg to retire on. On your way to your last 13 hr day's work before retirement, you have a massive heart attack and you die. It's about balance kids. Life's for living now not on the 'maybe later'.

So the way to beat debt is to be rich and pay less tax? Great advice!
