ANALYSIS: A government report has been locked away — but it wasn't the only thing kept from voters this week

Back in October, the nation's often-warring media companies joined forces in a rare display of unity. As part of the"Right to Know" campaign, newspaper front pages were blacked out and TV ads ran across the networks. The rival bosses of News Corp, the ABC and Nine Entertainment even shared a stage, giving a joint address to the National Press Club.In fact, it feels like we've regressed when it comes to transparency.

Conveniently, the head of his own Department apparently found the independent, highly respected Audit Office was wrong. The aftershocks of the sports rorts affair have been major, but the Government has two things to smile about this week, writes Michelle Grattan. According to Scott Morrison, Phil Gaetjens found"no basis for the suggestion that political considerations were the primary determining factor".

How did Gaetjens reach this surprising conclusion, given the evidence of grants being awarded based on colour-coded electoral margins and the details laid out by the auditor-general?The Prime Minister cited past practice for the secrecy."Reports of this nature," he said, were"documents of Cabinet" and would therefore remain confidential.

Biased censoring lying neomarxist globalist media, enemy of the people, demand freedoms for themselves they would deny everybody else...

We are being governed in secrecy. No one is accountable. LNP Crime Family. crimeMinisterMorrison

zaklina15 You mean this one?

King ScottyfromMarketing is shoring up his position. These are all “on waters” matters and need to be kept secret in case the public object.

This has become SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for the LNP in all things. We are seeing our democracy eroded away in large chunks! Whatever happened to open and transparent government?

anmf_federal Australians are fed up with this type of governance & self serving agendas- Liberals must go asap I have a dream: To see the coalition government voted out with the same velocity former Queensland Premier Campbell Newman was in February 2015. Make it happen auspol qldpol

He seems to be following someone else’s leadership style from the USA. Another sad outcome from ScottyfromMarketing

They're increasingly implementing the directive of ScottyFromMarketing of 'I don't accept the premise of your question' ... to which the response should be 'well then I don't accept the premise of your government'

So much for Scotty from marketing telling us all he respects and expects transparency and accountability in government. Scotty is full of bluff as are the LNP deadbeats. The bloke is a bloody joke

Politicians and political parties have gone feral. How to bring them back into line is left to the ballot box. Even then the career politicians win the day.

He asks himself:”What would Trump do?”

McKenzie was only investigated by the PM&C for conflict of interest & distribution ratios. The LNP has ignored the most serious allegations, illegally creating their own selection system. You get the desired answer to the questions you ask yourself.

thinks people have a 'right to know', as they bang on about 'press freedom', and yet they refuse to inform the Australian public of the fact that Scott Morrison is actively taking steps to remove their right to transact using physical cash. = anti-journalism

it's not morrison fault this is how the country has been run for decades, people just blame the leaders they vote for instead of them voting

Maybe the media should refuse to give and LNP politicians air time until they are forced into transparency. The only reason they are there is because the media give tgrm the platform.

Yup... knew this kinda crap was coming as soon as they scraped through on half a dozen preference deals... desperate opportunists who hate the public.

Australia. The Banana Dictatorship

RobbieSthGoldy - yep, definitely will start watching insiders again.

We can see why he considers realDonaldTrump to be great mates! They’re using his rule book of government

we are being conned .This is the most corrupt government we have ever had in Australia ..they must be gone next election

This government is a fascist entity. The less the sheep know the better. We really need to wake up before it’s too late.

This Morrison govt is rotten to the core! Please let's not forget when next voting?
