Glenda McCulloch paints contemporary Indigenous art. After advertising her paintings on Instagram, she found the demand for her art is much stronger than she first expected.

Ms McCulloch called her art contemporary — it is untraditional in that she has not been inspired by dreaming stories."I did one recently about the eucalyptus trees," she said.

"We were going to Dajarra for the rodeo and on the way [I] was looking at all the white gums in the distance and I came back, and I painted a painting. "It's not actually gumtrees, it's just white swirls but that was what I was inspired by and I just painted it.""I love Mount Isa's landscape — it's beautiful — the reds, the greens, the pinks. Every one of my paintings has those earthy tones in them," she said.

"I've tried to put blue in but every time I do that I feel like it's coastal and I just can't do it."A family affair

'Have it both ways': Melbourne council to hold Australia Day 'morning of mourning'A Melbourne council will hold a solemn ceremony to acknowledge the impact of European settlement on Indigenous Australians before its usual Australia Day celebrations — a move an Aboriginal group says could provide a national model for January 26. Treasonous. Then they can all go to work and not get paid for the holiday, I would really like to see their actual commitment to the cause. 'The move follows years of debate around the country about whether to move the national day from January 26.' No debate in my street or suburb. The ABC misfits think that their views reflect all of Australia. No ABC you only represent the 5% who are never satisfied.
