A good parent, faced with a half-eaten mouse, would stay calm. Not me | monicadux

There are some things you just can’t come back from, and you shouldn’t even try.

Luckily for my friend, the plane landed unscathed. Unluckily for her relationship, her boyfriend’s swagger did not. Once the emergency landing was announced, he fell apart, quite spectacularly, clinging to her and whimpering. “Save me!” he’d cried. “I don’t want to die!” Suffice to say, their relationship ended soon after the holiday.I fear I suffered a similarly irretrievable loss of face in front of my children recently, when I experienced a spectacular breakdown of my own.

All parents have their quirks, and my children understand that mummy has a problematic relationship with God’s smaller, rattier creations. My husband gets it, too, so if a rodent does manage to get within 50 metres of me, he swiftly deals with it. It’s a system which failed horribly last week, when he was out of town and our cat brought in a live mouse, releasing it under my bed.
