A bizarre glitch that resulted in millions of Facebook accounts posting random comments on celebrity pages has been resolved, however fears remain over potential personal data breaches. 7NEWS

However, although the issue has been resolved, the meltdown has raised security concerns, with fears the social media giant was hacked and users’ personal information may have been compromised.

“It looks like they were doing a configuration change and changing the software somehow ... and there was a glitch that allowed posts that are coming from a fan’s page or celebrity page, to turn up in your feed”, he said. “So, usually for a change like this it would make that change in a test environment ... and somehow this got past the test environment and out into the real world,” he said.Facebook

“It doesn’t look like there was much of a data breach in terms of what we understand, but Facebook hasn’t told us everything that’s going on,” he said.“But this is probably not a data breach ... but simply a problem in terms of the configuration when switching from one upgrade to another.”
