There are valid questions over Labor’s aim to cut emissions by 45 per cent when the Paris target is 26 per cent, alongside its failure to fully cost that change, but Australia cannot afford to spend another three years failing to come up with a solution. Coherent energy and climate policy is crucial for the next government.

More significantly, a Labor government would need to work hard to demonstrate that it can make policy without wholesale interference from trade unions that already feel they are manifestly owed significant concessions for their work on the campaign front lines.
