'A compelling case for change': Why we are backing Bill Shorten | EDITORIAL auspol ausvotes2019

Alex EllinghausenMr Morrison, who has displayed energy and grit in almost single-handedly carrying the government’s campaign, is selling himself as a presidential leader who will provide stability through policy status quo, and as the only candidate who can be trusted to deliver prudent fiscal and economic management.

There are valid questions over Labor’s aim to cut emissions by 45 per cent when the Paris target is 26 per cent, alongside its failure to fully cost that change, but Australia cannot afford to spend another three years failing to come up with a solution. Coherent energy and climate policy is crucial for the next government.

Labor’s shadow treasurer, Chris Bowen, is reasonable to caution that the federal coffers may not be able to afford a wide sweep of income tax cuts if the economy does not gather pace. Labor’s push to raise wages and recalibrate the industrial dispute landscape does give us cause for concern. The proposal for a “low cost” Fair Work tribunal feels ill-thought-out. More significantly, a Labor government would need to work hard to demonstrate that it can make policy without wholesale interference from trade unions that already feel they are manifestly owed significant concessions for their work on the campaign front lines.

Kymbo82_SA The age? Is that still a thing? Luckily NO one reads it anymore. Lolzzz

A compelling case for people never to renew their subscriptions. Shorten has consistently refused to cost his so-called 'renewables' policy and that remains the case today. Any newspaper that endorses such an irrational candidate, doesn't deserve any custom.

Independent Always.

We. What a laugh. You speak for yourself and all the left wing nutters who read your tripe.

I've never understood why newspapers believe they have any kind of authority to tell people how to vote.

When you say 'we' do you mean The Age. If not don't assume 'we' the voting public are going to vote for this man Shorten.

The news industry is dying slowly. People who do news are supposed to stay impartial and balanced. You can't do either if your a backer or supporter of one side. Report the news. Stop trying to create it.

We are not backing Bill, we are voting him out

The backing is coming from your boss the abc.

This ain't a shock at all...

Labor 2007-2013: Pink batts, 4 dead, 400 homes damaged or destroyed, school halls, grocery and fuel watch, all disasters, wasted millions $$$, sent out $900 cheque’s to dead people and prisoners in jail, cach for clunkers! Labor can’t run an economy, can’t handle money...!!!

Lead by Bill Shorten, the entire Labor front bench are multi-millionaires, with many owning multiple properties! Labor speak of low wage earners, the middle class, social engineering, yet know nothing about struggling to make ends meet! Labor are conning you and can’t be trusted!

Labor want to change every aspect of Australian life based upon their far left of left, radical socialist agenda, which will destroy the country as we know it! The risk of Labor is to great! Remember their history in Government 2007-2013! RUDD/GILLARD/RUDD...? Never Forgetz!

Reminder to The Age: Rudd/Gillard/Rudd/Shorten/Plibersek/Bowen/Swan/Wong/DISASTER on a massive scale! Australia can never forget how Labor performed when last in Government 2007-2013! The past teaches us about the future! Vote LNP to stop crooked and corrupt Labor...!!!

Your rag has been lying about Bill since the election was called along with channel 9,so now on election even you decide to back him,I would say fk off I hope he changes media ownership rules if he wins

🤦‍♂️The Age never saw an ALP gov it did not like

An intelligent viewpoint:

And who is 'we' - The Age'?

No ways!

Because you represent advertisers who represent Big Business and Govt bureaucrats.

KAK explodes: Bill Shorten winning will ‘end life as we know it’Television star Kerri-Anne Kennerley has launched a ferocious attack on Bill Shorten, making the fairly significant call that he would spark an “end to life as we know it” if he wins. Good. Life as we know it sucks for too many people. Desperate much. Doesn't matter who wins, life as we know it is always going to end, if only to appease the minority every time.
