We can expect by the end of the week a “further tightening” of alcohol restrictions in the Northern Territory by the federal government, says Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.

“With the likely introduction of opt-out alcohol restrictions in Aboriginal communities, not the current system of opt-in,” Mr Clennell said.

“When it came to the meeting between the Prime Minister and the Northern Territory government and Indigenous groups in Alice Springs last Tuesday, I understand the outcome that was announced to tighten takeaway alcohol sales and have two alcohol-free days had been worked out by officials before the meeting.”Read More

Why in hells name did they not keep the cashless card. Truely these guys are fools.

Wont happen until Peta and Barnaby leave the place.

Hmm is there a correlation between this new ban and the price of beer going up $$. I wonder what deal was struck, whereby the rest of the country has to pick up the slack for the alcohol $$ losses

If my car doesn't pass rego, what happens? If they have NO ACCESS TO GROG, WHAT HAPPENS? It is a den of iniquity... SO BAN IT! SIMPLE! AlboMP

That’s alright I’m not going back there

This seems counterproductive, shouldn't indigenous communities be given more freedom to run as they see fit instead of having more 'white' rules implemented?

Perhaps ask PetaCredlin about her thoughts on the effects of alcohol abuse.!

Lots of NT registered cars in Coober Pedy yesterday. Bulk buying.

Gee it would be good if Sky News read the media other than listening to the sound of their own voice. See the article today on why the NT Chief Minister has now acted on alcohol bans in the Alice

Here’s an idea. What if there was a welfare card that couldn’t be used to buy alcohol? 🤔

Albosafuckup

Sounds like covid, destroy the freedom of the majority to save the minority. Didn't labour start this by cancelling the cash free debit card for them🤔

Robodebt? Anybody, Anybody ....Bueller, Bueller can you answer that?

What is about the NT that requires alcohol restrictions? Aboriginal people and alcohol don't mix. Violent and rapey at the best of times, alcohol only makes aboriginal behaviour (crime) worse. Does this deserve a constitutional body? VoiceToParliament VoteYes

Well do not blame me I did not vote for a labor government

Expect ‘two or three further’ rate rises from the RBA this yearProptrack's Economist Angus Moore says the RBA will 'kick-off' the year with an interest rate increase and “expect to see two or three further rises” this year. “That's going to add a lot to mortgage costs and already has, given that the very quick pace of interest rate rises that we saw across last year,' Mr Moore told Sky News Australia. “I think we will start to see the RBA slowdown later in the year.” The wind has fallen out of new home sales after the homebuyer grant wore off. It will be interesting to see the RBA turn the WA economy into a Northern Blue, aka, a dead parrot. The economy might be better off without government policy and its wingmen RBAInfo

What was The Intervention era in NT Indigenous communities? The hardline Northern Territory Emergency Response was in place across the territory for 15 years. So, what was the policy that became better known as 'The Intervention'? However, critics say the policy embraced the worst effects of colonialism and argue it resulted in higher rates of incarceration among Indigenous Australians, while doing little to make Aboriginal children safer. Bingo. 'It's impossible to police your way out of this because, when you think about it, the number of children in juvenile detention has escalated,' she said. So profiteering on house prices and rendering everyone homeless isnt the solution? Its just leading to rising crime levels? The reason labor is refraining from a Police State is because they know you cant Police Poverty. Beating homeless people with a stick does nothing. You'll have hate and Terrorism. You cant solve Poverty with Violence. Australias Corrupt :) I told yas.

'Heartbreaking': Sky News reporter's emotional live cross on NT violenceMatt Cunningham, who has worked as a journalist for more than 12 years in Northern Territory and covered the escalating crime rate, was overcome with emotion during a live cross on Friday morning. Is this another sanctuary city? What stops a criminal who crossed the southern border of USA given paperwork from the worst administration in American history to fly into Australia ? Only stupid city people with their head in the sand think Alice is shocking. Try going to ANY remote community in AUS & living there for a few weeks or months. This type of behaviour is common & experienced by residents frequently. Alice Springs is just the Current Thing.
