Nathan Yuill, who delivered Easter baskets to other sick kids during his own fight, celebrated the end of his treatment over the weekend.
Nathan Yuill was diagnosed with stage four Hodgkin’s lymphoma, according to his mom, Dena Yuill . During his treatment, he madeFriends and family gathered Saturday for Nathan ’s bell-ringing ceremony.
“Nathan, ring this bell three times well to celebrate this day. This course is run. My treatment is done. Now I am on my way,” Dena announced before Nathan rang the bell.
“I know Nathan from school, and he’s a really nice kid,” Luke said. When asked how he felt during the bell ringing, Luke said through tears, “emotional ... I felt happy for him. ”“I actually lost a son to cancer just over six years ago.
And so when this popped up, it brought up a lot of old memories,” Bowen said.
“I felt like I was supposed to be there to help. ”Dena said the community support made a difference, specifically the encouragement from her friend Denise.
“When we started first hearing the word cancer being thrown around, and I was devastated,” Dena said, fighting back tears. “She was a call away every single time. And it just means the world to us to know that there’s people that are just, and she was just there every single time,” Dena said.
“Our pastor of our church knows the Mat-Su Borough mayor, and he got together with her, and they decided to make May 9 Nathan Yuill Day,” Dena said. Dena said the family plans to travel the country over the next few years, and Nathan said he just can’t wait for the waterparks.
