Some students at Willowcreek Middle School in Lehi are not receiving yearbooks for the end of the school year due to unclear inventory and policy restrictions.
Some students at Willowcreek Middle School in Lehi are ending the school year without a yearbook. According to parents, they believe they ordered yearbooks at the beginning of the school year, but they said they were not sure and could not find receipts confirming the purchases.
“She called me on the morning of the yearbook handout and was just distraught that she didn’t get one,” Orton said. In a statement, the district said it sympathizes with parents and students and understands how meaningful yearbook distribution is for students.
The district also said it ordered additional yearbooks beyond the original orders, but those copies sold out quickly after spring break. According to the district, a review of transactions found that everyone who ordered a yearbook received one. With no extra copies available at the school, parents began searching for another solution.
“How are these kids going to have a good summer if the yearbook doesn’t say ‘Have a good summer’ a thousand times? ” Jill and Grant Ensign, school parents, said. Grant Ensign said he called the yearbook publisher and learned that at least 25 orders would be needed to place a new printing order. When asked how their children reacted to the solution, parents said the response was overwhelmingly positive.
“Oh, they’re thrilled,” Orton said. “I’ve had a lot of parents say, ‘You guys are angels. You guys are the heroes. ’”“At the end, this isn’t a story about yearbooks and us not getting one,” Ensign said.
“It’s a sign that we live in an incredible place with a great community.
