The San Antonio Spurs secured a decisive 114-95 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 5, clinching their first-round playoff series 4-1. Led by De’Aaron Fox, Victor Wembanyama, and a balanced offensive attack, the Spurs advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals, where they await the winner of the Denver Nuggets-Minnesota Timberwolves series. The team emphasized their unity and readiness for the next challenge.

The San Antonio Spurs entered Game 5 of their first-round NBA Playoff series against the Portland Trail Blazers with a businesslike approach, focused solely on securing the win and advancing to the Western Conference Semifinals .

As rookie Stephon Castle stated at shootaround, there was no need for extra motivation—it was simply about getting the job done. The Spurs delivered, dominating from the opening tip and never trailing en route to an 114-95 victory, clinching the series 4-1. With the win, San Antonio earned a few days of rest before facing the winner of the Denver Nuggets-Minnesota Timberwolves series, which Minnesota currently leads 3-2.

Castle, reflecting on the team’s readiness, said, 'I don’t think we’re needing any extra time to wait and see which one we’re gonna play. I think we’re ready.

' The Spurs’ offensive firepower was on full display, led by De’Aaron Fox’s 21 points and nine assists on 8-for-14 shooting. Julian Champagnie contributed 19 points, hitting 5 of 7 from three-point range, while Victor Wembanyama recorded a 17-point double-double with six blocks, bringing his total to 13 blocks over the last two games. Deni Avdija also chipped in with 22 points. Fox, who had been waiting for this moment, joked, 'It’s taken a while, but it definitely feels good.

' Throughout the series, the Spurs relied on different stars to step up in each game. Wembanyama carried the load in Game 1, while Devin Vassell helped erase an 8-0 Portland run in Game 2. In Game 3, Dylan Harper and Castle combined for 60 points in Wembanyama’s absence due to concussion protocol. Wembanyama returned in Game 4 with 27 points and seven blocks, complementing Fox’s 28.

The team’s chemistry was evident, with Wembanyama emphasizing their unity: 'We got this connection. I think there’s no useless drama between us… there’s no jealousy. Nobody cares about their stat line. It’s our greatest strength.

' Despite the dominant performance, the Spurs recognize there’s still room for improvement. 'We have a lot of things that we can be better at,' Johnson said, 'but we’re ready to step in, ready to step up to the plate and swing, and that’s fun to be a part of. ' The Western Conference First Round series between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets will conclude with Game 6 on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. Central on ESPN.
