Weld County GOP Chair Hunter Rivera resigned after his arrest in a Larimer County child predator sting operation.

WELD COUNTY, Colo. — The Weld County Republican Party has received and accepted the resignation of Hunter Rivera as county chair, effective immediately. Rivera was one of two men arrested in connection with a child predator operation conducted by the Larimer County Sheriff's Office .

Investigators said they posed as minors selling sexual acts on local websites and forums, and two men, including Rivera, arrived at an agreed-upon location to buy sex. Rivera, 24, was booked in the Larimer County Jail on several felonies, including soliciting a child prostitute and attempted sexual assault on a child.

“Children are not property to be bought or sold,” said Sheriff John Feyen. “Human trafficking is modern day slavery, and we won’t tolerate it in Larimer County. I hope this operation sends a strong message. It doesn’t matter who you are, if you try to hurt kids in our community, you will be held accountable.

” Colorado House and Senate Republicans released a statement saying: "These charges are sickening, horrifying, and beyond reprehensible. There is no defense for anyone who preys on children, no excuses, and no place for that anywhere near public life or our party.

" The state GOP added in a separate statement that the allegations against Rivera are"deeply disturbing and, if proven true, deserve the strongest possible condemnation. " First Vice Chair Adrienne Sandoval will take over the duties and functions of chairman until a successor is elected.
