Three individuals in Los Angeles County have been sentenced to weekend jail time for orchestrating a bizarre insurance fraud scheme, involving a person in a bear costume damaging luxury vehicles. Alfiya Zuckerman, 39, Ruben Tamrazian, 26, and Vahe Muradkhanyan, 32, have all pleaded no contest to felony insurance fraud charges. Their sentence includes 180 days behind bars, to be served through a weekend jail program, as confirmed by the California Department of Insurance.
In addition to their custodial sentences, the trio will be under supervised probation for a period of two years. The Department of Insurance detailed how the group presented video evidence purportedly showing a bear damaging the interiors of a 2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost, a 2015 Mercedes G63 AMG, and a 2022 Mercedes E350. These videos, all filmed in the identical location, depicted what appeared to be a bear entering and moving within the vehicles. The suspicious nature of these claims prompted the involved insurance companies to report the matter to state insurance regulators, initiating an investigation codenamed Operation Bear Claw. The investigative team, suspecting a human in disguise, sought expert opinion. They presented the videos to a biologist from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, who unequivocally identified the figure as a human wearing a bear suit, according to state insurance regulators. This expert confirmation was crucial in building the case.
