The X2 was demonstrated at Beijing Daxing International Airport on Sunday during China’s Langfang International Economic and Trade Fair.China’s low-altitude economy, consisting of businesses operating unmanned drones and manned aerial vehicles below 3,000 metres in altitude, has been on the rise since 2021, after the central government introduced policies and regulations to bolster the nascent sector, reported SCMP.
The fifth-generation flying car, which conducted its maiden global flight in Dubai in 2022, does not produce any carbon dioxide emissions during flight and is claimed to be a step forward in the pursuit of urban green transportation. The X2 adopts an enclosed cockpit with a minimalist teardrop-shaped design and a sci-fi appearance that takes high-efficient aerodynamics into account to achieve the ultimate in-flight performance. In order to reduce weight, the XPENG X2 has a complete carbon fibre structure.
China’s Centre for Information Industry Development, which is linked to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, claimed that the country’s low-altitude market is forecast to exceed 1 trillion yuan by 2026, up from 506 billion yuan in 2023, according toof China South Central Regional Administration had accepted the Type Certificate application for the airframe of its “Land Aircraft Carrier” flying car, codenamed X3-F, marking a significant step towards airworthiness certification.
