It doesn’t take a lot of rain to wash out the streets around Mobile County Metro Jail. Just ask the guy who got stuck in water that was deeper than he bargained for Monday. He turned his Cadillac sedan onto Texas Street. He didn’t get very far. It took the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department to pull him out.

He didn’t get very far.“We urge citizens to, if you come across water like this, don’t drive into it,” said Jeff Haller, a spokesman for the department. “It can be very dangerous. In this case, this street is kind of a low spot, and I think it traditionally, seems to flood when it rains.”“You don’t know how deep it is because it’s not clear water,” he said.
“Very, very frequent,” he said. “Every time it rains; I mean, from a half an inch to, like, rain we’re getting today. Flooding. Access to our properties and all these other businesses down here – it terrible.” But that would not address the flooding issue. Mobile steadily has been upgrading aging pipes, but it has not gotten to this trouble spot yet. Johnson told FOX10 News that would cost in the range of $20 million to $30 million.
The second, Johnson told FOX10 News, is a $5 million grant application through a U.S. Department of Transportation program called Rebuilding American Infrastructure and Equity, or RAISE.
