Parts of Utah will be prime viewing spots for the annular solar eclipse this weekend.
The eclipse, which occurs when the moon passes between earth and the sun, creates a "ring of fire" phenomenon that people travel hundreds of miles to see. The maximum annularity will be visible in Richfield at 10:28 a.m. on Saturday,One small town in particular is right in the path of the eclipse. Richfield, home to around 8,000 people, is preparing for an event – and for crowds – like they've never seen before.
Burrows also said two medical choppers are already in position, and city leaders have taken lessons from Idaho, which hosted the last eclipse. Managers at Sandi’s said their biggest day of the year usually is the 4th of July. But they think what’s coming will eclipse that. Molly Poulsen, owner of Nights Inn, said her motel is “packed” and its rooms “filled up immediately.”But despite how busy it will be, Poulsen is excited – especially since other events like a fall festival and a haunted hotel will be taking place at the same time.
