The National Hurricane Center has upgraded 'Potential Tropical Cyclone 1' in the Southwest Gulf of Mexico to Tropical Storm Alberto.
At 10AM the National Hurricane Center officially upgraded “ Potential Tropical Cyclone 1 ″ in the SW Gulf of Mexico to Tropical Storm Alberto !
Alberto had winds sustained at 40mph with a pressure of 995mb. The previous update had 998mb. Because the pressure has been dropping, this means Alberto has been strengthening. Not only did the NHC upgrade the storm to Alberto, but they also gave an upgraded tropical track. The movement changed from WNW to due-west. The storm is still expected to make landfall in Mexico late tonight.
Our tropical impacts have not changed with the new name for Alberto. Most of the impacts in Texas will be from Corpus Christi to Brownsville and in our coastal areas.Alberto is the first name of our 2024 list in the Atlantic Basin.
