Procter & Gamble announced Monday it has redesigned its Charmin Ultra Soft toilet paper, replacing the tradition perferations on the square sheets with a scallop design that will tear more cleanly.

Procter & Gamble announced Monday, Oct. 2, a redesign of its Charmin Ultra Soft toilet paper sheets. The traditional perferations separating each sheet will be replaced with a scallop design Charmin says will offer cleaner tears and less waste.CINCINNATI – Procter & Gamble announced Monday a breakthrough in technology that will change the shape of toilet paper in its Charmin Ultra Soft rolls.

“This is something the toilet paper category hasn’t seen, and we’ve spent more than five years perfecting the technology and design behind it,” Rob Reinerman, Procter & Gamble’s Charmin vice president,. “At Charmin, we’re all about delivering ... superior products with the best performance, ultimately delivering value to our consumers. It’s why we keep innovating and investing in performance.”

The change is an attempt to address frustration many consumers have when they’re unable to get a clean tear, the company said. That results in additional toilet paper usage and potential waste.
