The Dutch pancake served at Outerlands in San Francisco. The Outer Sunset restaurant will change ownership at the end of September 2022.
“We’re here to help the transition feel as natural as possible and make sure that things continue the same,” she said. “One exciting thing is that dinner will be on the horizon soon. We’re excited to bring that back.” The couple had thought about ownership transfer for the last couple of years, Porcello said, and the pandemic allowed them to reconsider their priorities. They were able to pause and really think about the future they wanted for the restaurant, as well as their family.
“It feels like a good moment,” she said. “In a restaurant, you don’t have time to assess and look at the big picture. Outerlands is way beyond us. Muller and Porcello debuted Outerlands back in 2009 as a charming restaurant within walking distance of Ocean Beach. The simple menu of salads, soups and fresh levain bread quickly grew in popularity, which made securing a table a challenge for customers, according to a 2009 report by thewith additional seating to help alleviate wait times at the first-come, first-serve restaurant, which maintained its homey interior of soft grey and brown wooden panels within the dining space.
