Jake Gyllenhaal as Elwood Dalton in theem Road House/em 2024 remake.

Summary Jake Gyllenhaal's Road House 2 receives a cautious update from director Doug Liman, though he would "hate to leave him hanging." A remake of 1989's Road House, the new film follows an ex-UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse and discovers the apparent paradise is not at all what it seems.

I don't know. I mean, Jake's a good friend. I love him dearly. Yeah, it was a really special collaboration to pull off that character. It's not the kind of character Jake normally plays, so I hate to leave him hanging. But also, I've never done a sequel and you know, not that I don't talk about it because obviously Edge of Tomorrow. You know? It's not a day goes by I don't think about how we can pull that off.

Around the time the remake was released on Prime Video, Gyllenhaal expressed interest in reprising his role in a sequel. By May, a Road House sequel was officially announced with Gyllenhaal returning as Elwood Dalton.

Liman – known for directing Swingers, The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Edge of Tomorrow, and American Made – has never made a sequel throughout his career. However, Edge of Tomorrow 2, as Liman mentions, has become a serious possibility in addition to Road House 2. Despite his hesitation, the director admits to frequently thinking about the potential of the sequels, indicating he is seriously thinking about making his first.
