A year after Ethan Salas debuted as a 16-year-old at low Single-A Lake Elsinore, 17-year-old Leodalis De Vries is headed to the California League
The Padres put Leodalis De Vries in a big-league ‘B’ game this spring the day after the 17-year-old flew in from the Dominican Republic. They flew him into Petco Park to play in the exhibition series against the Seattle Mariners. They did not start his career at a full-season affiliate, but the thinking all along was that their top 2024 international signee would find his name in a lineup well before the rookie Arizona Complex League begins next month.
Chihuahuas 5, Albuquerque 3: RHP Jeremiah Estrada struck out two in the ninth to save his second game. LHP Daniel Camarena opened the game with one run allowed on three hits and three walks. He struck out five. 1B Donovan Solano went 0-for-2 with a walk in the start at first base. 2B Nate Mondou hit his second homer, C Kevin Plawecki doubled twice and LF Tim Locastro went 3-for-4 with two steals.
Corpus Christi 2, Missions 1: RHP Woo-Suk Go blew his second save as he allowed two runs on three hits and a walk in the eighth inning of a 1-0 game. Go threw 14 of his 21 pitches for strikes. RHP Victor Lizarraga opened the game with 2⅔ shutout innings. San Antonio’s only hits were singles from LF Cole Cummings , RF Robert Perez Jr. and 2B Ripken Reyes .
TinCaps 5, Dayton 3 : C Colton Bender doubled twice and drove in three runs. 3B Devin Ortiz went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI, two walks and two runs scored. RHP Braden Nett allowed two runs in 1⅔ innings in the start. The bullpen closed the win with 6⅓ innings of shutout baseball. LOW SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE Storm 10, Visalia 0: RHP Carson Montgomery struck out six while scattering two hits and a walk over four shutout innings in the start.
