Northrop Grumman has tested its groundbreaking digitally designed rocket motor, the C50HP, developed for the NGI program.
The company explains that the test validates its decision to take an entirely digital design approach for the rocket motor.Northrop Grumman has announced it has successfully tested its first entirely digitally designed rocket motor. Named the Common 50 High-Performance , this upper-stage solid rocket motor is intended for use in the United States Next-Generation Interceptor program.
“Our implementation of digital solutions across our business is transforming how we design, test, and manufacture next-generation propulsion systems,” said Jim Kalberer, vice president of propulsion systems at Northrop Grumman. Full pressure and structural qualification testing were also completed for the C50HP motor. The company explains that this validates the advanced design’s ability to withstand various loads and extreme environments.
