The Milpitas park is named after the Delano Manongs, Filipino farmworkers who worked in the fields of California during the early 20th century. Community leaders unveiled a plaque honoring Larry Itliong, a Filipino-American labor leader who played a pivotal role in the American labor movement. He co-founded the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee and united farmworkers to demand fair wages and better working conditions.

In addition to city council members and Milpitas Unified School District trustees, elected officials in attendance at the park’s grand opening included state Assemblymember Alex Lee and state Sen. Aisha Wahab. Both Lee and Wahab represent Milpitas.. Through the program, Milpitas expects to reduce utility electricity consumption by more than 4.2 million kilowatt-hours per year, and to substantially improve the efficiency of the city’s water infrastructure.
