Every face on the mural is accompanied by a QR code that links to a video in which Érica Alfaro, Jesse Navarro and Sunshine Horton tell their stories
A new interactive mural in National City celebrates three local Hispanic leaders for their community accomplishments. The mural is part of a project by sister stations NBC 7 and Telemundo 20. It was announced as part of Hispanic Heritage Month, which concluded Oct. 15. 'It is a mural that recognizes the culture, spirit and achievements of our community,' said Antonio Ortoll, marketing and event manager.
The book, available in English and Spanish, was recognized as 'Most Inspirational Young Adult Book' by the International Latino Book Awards in 2022. Today, she often shares her story at conferences to inspire others. 'Many times I've been asked if I ever felt like giving up,' Alfaro said. 'And now, to see my mural here is to know that it was all worth it'.
