Man plays his saxophone through 9-hour, 'very, very complex' brain surgery to remove tumor

The doctor said his patient, who has been identified only as C.Z., played the theme song from the 1970 movie"Love Story," and the Italian national anthem, at various times throughout the surgery. Brogna, who has performed hundreds of awake brain surgeries, said the key to pulling off such a complex operation, was preparation.

During the preparations for this and any other brain surgery, Brogna said the team looks at the entire person, not just the pathology.

Playing the saxophone was part of the monitoring process associated with the success operation.

This same thing happened over 5 years ago to my friend. Had his operation at UofR Medical Center in Upstate New York.

I once had to talk to a patient during brain surgery to ensure his speech center wasn't compromised- it wasn't and he fully recuperated after.
