HOUSTON — The risk for severe weather increased overnight. On a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the worst, the severe threat for Southeast Texas is a level 3 for Monday, including all of the Houston area. Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for Harris, Fort Ben, Montgomery, Polk, San Jacinto, Walker, Waller, Austin, Brazoria, Brazos, Burleson, Chambers, Colorado, Galveston, Grimes, Liberty, Matagorda, Washington and Wharton counties until 8 p.m.That means there is an enhanced chance of severe weather.

The best timeline for severe storms is between 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. We could have a few storms at noon and some last through the evening. Overall the highest threat for severe storms will happen during your afternoon. On a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the worst, the severe threat for Southeast Texas is a level 3 for Monday, including all of the Houston area.

In addition, any storms that develop will have the potential to become large hail producers. While the threat remains isolated, hail stones in excess of 2 to 4 inches in diameter are possible in the worst storms that develop. These are hail sizes that can do significant damage to a car and even roofs.Due to the inclement weather forecast at normal release time, East Chambers ISD schools will dismiss at 2:05 p.m. today.
