David Mundee After guiding Houston Academy’s girls varsity basketball team for the last six years and being a part of the Raider girls program for 14 years, Leigh Griffin is stepping down from her roles at the school.
During her six years as varsity coach, Griffin directed the Raiders to a 76-66 record and to three regional tournament appearances after the program went 22 years without making a regional postseason tourney. Her three other teams advanced to the sub-regional round. While at HA, she also guided the school’s girls junior high basketball team for 14 seasons, doing both the varsity and junior high teams during her last six years. Her junior high years included a 38-game winning streak from the 2017-18 season through the 2020-2021 season.
Her six-year run is among the best in HA girls basketball history along with some success by Tony Kirkland in the mid-2010s and Ronnie Shelley in the late 1990s and early 2000s. “She was also associate A.D. and she helped with athletic eligibility. I appreciate her commitment to the school and to our girls.”
