The man was being followed by Harbor Police when he drove off the pier next to the USS Midway Museum into San Diego Bay
A man who died after driving his car into San Diego Bay next to the USS Midway Museum early Monday is suspected of stabbing a woman at a La Jolla hotel about a half hour earlier, police said.The incident began around 12:05 a.m. when a woman called police to report she had been stabbed at the Travelodge hotel on La Jolla Boulevard. When officers arrived they found a woman suffering a slashed arm, stab wounds to her upper chest and defensive wounds on her hands, police said.
The victim gave police a description of the man and his vehicle. Around 12:35 a.m., the man’s white Honda Accord was spotted by Harbor Police in the downtown area, police Officer Sarah Foster said. “They were following him. They saw the vehicle and they were following him,” she said. “Were they pursuing it? I don’t know.”
The man drove across the parking lot next to the Midway and “launched his vehicle” off the pier into the water, Foster said.
