Eddie Duran, 38, appeared before a judge Thursday afternoon in Okaloosa County court.
A judge granted a $100,000 bond in a pre-trial detention hearing on Thursday for the former Florida deputy charged with manslaughter in theWhile the state asked for a $250,000 bond amount and Duran 's defense team asked for a $10,000 bond amount, the judge issued a $100,000 bond.
Duran's attorney Rod Smith spoke at length before the judge, explaining that Duran currently homeschools his six children -- ages 8-17 -- as his wife works amid his inability to get a job. He added that Duran is not a flight risk -- citing previous cooperation in the case, as well as his current financial situation due to being unemployed.
The state said its $250,000 bond request would be consistent with the first-degree felony charge and also appropriate considering the "weight of the evidence."
