Giant Purple monster and little girl in IF
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Director John Krasinski gets his first rotten rating since 2016 with the debut of his new movie IF on Rotten Tomatoes. Ryan Reynolds stars in A Quiet Place director Krasinksi’s new live-action/animated family film, about a young girl who can see everyone else’s imaginary friends.
If early critical returns are any indication, reviewers are not high on Krasinski’s turn from horror to family-oriented fantasy, as IF debuts on Rotten Tomatoes with a 56% fresh rating, the lowest score for a Krasinski-directed film since 2016's The Hollars. It’s still early in the process, of course, and Krasinski’s film could always rebound and sneak over the threshold to be considered fresh.
How IF’s Rotten Tomatoes Rating Compares To A Quiet Place And Other Krasinski Films Krasinski kicked off his feature film directorial career with 2009’s Brief Interviews With Hideous Men, an adaptation of several David Foster Wallace short stories.
Critics did not change their tune on Krasinski’s directorial output until he left behind such comedy-dramas and focused on a new genre, horror. The filmmaker indeed had his first critical and box office success with 2018’s A Quiet Place, starring Krasinski himself alongside Emily Blunt. Krasinski then doubled-down with 2020’s A Quiet Place Part II, another critical and box office hit.
