Highmark set to begin requiring central Pa. employees to return to the office

Highmark has about 3,500 employees in central Pa., with some being called back to the office and who will continue to be allowed to work from home.

The change will affect employees across the markets where Highmark does business, which include Pennsylvania and several nearby states, with some employees coming back to the office and some continuing to work from home. Highmark has about 3,500 employees in central Pennsylvania. Another 18,000 have been working from home since early in the pandemic, which began in early 2020. Roughly half of those employees will be required to return to the office during a “transition” beginning Sept. 5, Holmberg said.Holmberg said Highmark did a thorough review of job categories, with many of those being required to return to working in roles that involve “leadership, mentorship, fellowship, thinking skills, problem-solving.

In most cases, Holmberg said, employees will resume working at the location where they worked before the pandemic.
