José Ramírez and Steven Kwan will compete with other finalists at their positions for starting spots in the All-Star Game.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — José Ramírez and Steven Kwan are each one step closer to starting in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game set for July 16 in Arlington, Texas.
Guardians regulars Josh Naylor, Andrés Giménez, and David Fry each failed to advance past the first phase of voting, but could earn a spot on the AL squad when pitchers and reserves are announced on July 7.Ramírez easily outdistanced Jordan Westburg of Baltimore for the top spot among American League third basemen.
Kwan moved past Houston’s Kyle Tucker, who was third in Monday’s latest ballot update, but has not played for the Astros since suffering a bruised shin on June 7. He seeks to become the first Cleveland outfielder to start an All-Star game since Juan Gonzalez in 2001.
