Sitting in her office scrolling through X in early October, Boise State beach volleyball coach Allison Voigt stumbled across a post about one of her players: sophomore Nora Hayd. Hayd is like any other student-athlete. But the biggest difference between Hayd and others is, well, her unique form of creative expression. This season, the athlete took her media day photos with pink hair, exaggerated eyeliner and several piercings. The makeup, she tells TODAY.
Playing volleyball throughout her life, she switched to beach volleyball in her junior year of high school for its more laidback culture in pursuit of a collegiate athletic career. 'She was really interested in art, and that's one we never really had that in our program,' Voigt says about Hayd during the recruiting process. 'For us, it was more that she was an amazing human.' Hayd has learned to balance her beach volleyball life with her personal interests.
