Raspberry plants survive through winter conditions, ready to grow again the next year.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Often bought after they have already been started, raspberry plants are biennials.

By the year after bearing raspberries, the tall stock will be dead. “You end up with dead canes that just need to be removed by hand,” said Risse. This makes raspberry plants a multi-season investment. According to Risse, “It starts with one or two plants. It multiplies the next year. It multiplies even more the following year, and it will take over whatever space you let it go.”

According to Risse, growers can get three flushes of raspberries in a season, starting in July and ending around mid-to-late August.
