SAN DIEGO — A brush fire burning in Del Mar got dangerously close to homes Tuesday afternoon. Video shows thick, white smoke billowing into the air as the fire spreads.
Officials said the fire has grown to 23 acres. The blaze is now 5 percent contained and the forward rate of spread has been stopped. Two firefighters were also hospitalized due to heat exhaustion. San Diego Fire-Rescue spokeswoman Mónica Muñoz says that's not uncommon, since firefighters perform hard labor while in their heavy gear.
San Diego Fire-Rescue said three aircraft were dropping water on the fire, adding that the terrain is very difficult for firefighters on the ground.
