Fort Bend County Judge Tameika Carter sentenced Walter Jerome Gamble, 44, to 25 years in prison as a habitual offender on Nov. 2.A 44-year-old Simonton man recently was sentenced to 25 years in prison as a habitual offender, the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office reported.
He was arrested Feb. 1, 2021, following an eight-mile, high-speed chase involving multiple law enforcement agencies and a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter. After the vehicle crashed into a telephone pole guy wire on Twinwood Parkway, Gamble ran from officers into a field where he was arrested.
“The jury reached their verdict in only an hour, and several jurors told us afterwards that they appreciated the professionalism of the officers,” said lead prosecutor Chris Ludwig. “Even after this defendant led them on an eight-mile high-speed chase, endangering both them and other drivers on the roadway, they still treated the defendant with dignity and concern for his health after he was apprehended.
